Our History

Anderson University’s roots go back to the Church of God reformation movement, where believers were joined by their mutual commitment to Christ. In 1917, the Anderson Bible Training School (now Anderson University) was established in Anderson, Indiana with 65 students in attendance being trained for ministry.

Over the next 100 years, AU grew to become a private, liberal arts institution offering more than 60 undergraduate majors, as well as graduate programs in business, music education, and theology. Today, AU provides more than 130 ways for students to get involved on campus, including 20 NCAA Division III sports, a nationally-recognized intramural program, and numerous interest clubs.

Our spiritual heritage of acceptance and meaningful community continue with twice-weekly chapel services, weekly floor focus groups, and mentorships with faculty and staff members.

We steadfastly pursue our mission at AU of educating for a life of faith and service. Each day we set foot on campus we’re building tomorrow’s Christian leaders.

Anderson University is furthering the kingdom beyond Anderson, beyond Indiana, and even beyond the United States. We’re impacting lives that will go on to impact lives tenfold. We’re helping students grow through academic and Christian discovery so that they may pursue God’s calling for their life.
