New faculty members begin journey as AU professors
Anderson University’s Falls School of Business and School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences welcomed both new and familiar faces to their faculty this fall. Professors Stefanie Leiter and Vanessa Tijerina both served at AU in previous capacities before joining the faculty. Dr. Janell Blunt is a new face on AU’s campus.
Stefanie Leiter attended Anderson as a student from 2001-2005. She took a position as a web editor with the University in 2005 initially intending to move on after her husband’s graduation in 2006. Instead, she is now entering her 13th year as an employee of Anderson University. After previously working as director of content strategy, Leiter is now an assistant professor of public relations.
Leiter explained that AU was the right fit for her the moment she set foot on campus for the first time. With her transition to faculty comes great excitement.
“What I love most are the questions and interactions with students,” she said. “I love getting to know each on a personal level. This has been the best season of my life and the most content I have been professionally.”
Vanessa Tijerina is now working as an assistant professor of accounting. She spent the previous nine years working in AU’s business office; the last five of which were spent working as controller.
Tijerina studied at AU majoring in accounting. She took a position in the business office straight out of school. Anderson has harbored much growth for Tijerina.
“I’ve become a better accountant and a better leader,” she explained. “I’ve also gained confidence in myself and my abilities.” Tijerina also cited the relationships that have been cultivated through the leading of Tri-S trips and working as an assistant coach on the women’s basketball team as rewarding experiences from her time involved with Anderson University.
Dr. Janell Blunt is in her first year on faculty at AU after a long stint at Purdue University. Blunt studied psychology at Purdue before working as a professor at the University. She is currently serving as an assistant professor of psychology.
Similar to many students at Anderson University, Blunt cites the community as a major factor in drawing her to the University. “Anderson has a very welcoming environment. It’s hard not to want to be a part of it.”
Blunt lives with her husband in Indianapolis, Indiana.
