Complementary Christian Spiritual Formation Major
The latest addition to the School of Theology and Christian Ministry undergraduate program is the Christian spiritual formation major, a complementary major created to give students a way to intentionally think about their spiritual formation. In other words, it gives students structure as they seek to become more like Jesus.
This program is designed to complement any major, not just the ones within the School of Theology and Christian Ministry. We hope it gives students the tools to aim to be more like Christ wherever they are, from whatever walk of life God is calling them.
Students will not only explore Christian spiritual formation in the classroom, but they will also have a chance to search within themselves outside of Anderson, Ind. On alternating summers, students may either hike the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York or travel to Scotland. In New York, students will discuss how wilderness has shaped spirituality in different times. In Scotland, the class will explore the expressions of Christianity in the British Isles throughout history.

Worship Arts Major
Music has been an important part of worship within the Church of God movement, and the worship arts major honors that heritage. Being part of organizing a worship service takes many different shapes such as sound technology, graphic design, dance, video production, and conducting.
The worship arts major is interdisciplinary. Along with music courses, students take religion, Christian ministry, communication, dance, business, and education classes. The role of church musicians has changed through the years, and with this degree, graduating students will be able to go into churches — large or small, traditional or contemporary — to fulfill their calling.
Dr. Jeffrey Wright, dean of School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, brings to the classrooms more than 18 years of experience in higher education and leading worship in churches. Students will have Wright, as well as many other worship arts faculty, as substantial resources for practical knowledge and advice for the field of students’ interest.
Women in Ministry
From the very beginning of the movement, the Church of God has accepted and ordained women as clergy. Women have served in the pulpit, traveled as evangelists, and partnered with churches to obey what God has called them to do. Anderson University’s School of Theology and Christian Ministry continues to encourage the calling of women into ministry.
The School of Theology and Christian Ministry supported the formation of Qara. Meaning “God has called” in Hebrew, Qara is a support network for female ministers and students. Qara believes God has called and included women in ministry since the beginning.
The Gospel story is the foundation of Anderson University. Students benefit from a community of their peers and faculty dedicated to the work of Christ. We are excited to share our commitment to the centrality of the Christian tradition as faculty and students explore questions together.
