At Orangehaus Music Business Camp, we offer a unique week-long summer experience designed to help you discover what it takes to have a career in the music business.

You get the opportunity to fully exploit your own talent by choosing to play in a band, write songs, record in a studio, or get practical learning experience in music marketing and promotion. Our award-winning and international team will help you grasp studio technology like Pro Tools and create your own DIY home studio. You'll develop skills in studio recording, songwriting, strategies for selling your music, creating a killer press kit, music marketing, booking gigs, building a fan-base through social media, and legal stuff you gotta know.




High School students grades 9-12 during the 2017-18 school year. 

July 8-14, 2018

This is an overnight camp.
Students arrive on July 8 and depart on July 14.

Students from Orangehaus Music Business Camp are selected to record their original music with professional studio musicians and Grammy Award-winning producers at the world-class Gaither Studios.

Dr. Rebecca ChappellDR. REBECCA CHAPPELL

Dr. Rebecca Chappell is Director of Music Business Studies at Anderson University and the Founder/Director of Orangehaus Music Business Camp for high school students.  She also founded Orangehaus Records, Orangehaus Publishing, and Orangehaus Entertainment and received the "Music Business Educators Award" from EMI Music Group in recognition for her innovative pursuit of student career development.  Service to MEIEA includes twelve years on the MEIEA Board and president of the organization from 2003-2007.  An active solo performer and "first call" studio musician in the Indianapolis area, Chappell records for several distinguished publishing clients such as Hal Leonard and is a member of INDYKLEZ, a professional world music group.





Chad Evans is Chief Recording Engineer at Gaither Studios in Alexandria, IN.  He has won two Grammy Awards as mix engineer and producer for the Gaither Gospel Series that sold over fifteen million copies.  Evans has also engineered for notable artists such as Michael W. Smith, Vince Gill, Natalie Grant, and Jon McLaughlin.







Amanda Potaczek teaches music business at Anderson University and served as lead guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist, for the Indianapolis-based band,1000 Generation (Varietal Records).  In 2007 she won “Song of the year” at GMA in the Rockies at Estes Park, CO for the song, “How Big Small Can Be.”  Another one of her songs, “Fail Us Not,” has received significant national airplay.





Steven Potaczek


Steven Potaczek teaches record production at Anderson University and serves as the Senior Director of Worship at Grace Community Church in Noblesville, Indiana.  Steven also works as a freelance producer and songwriter in the Indianapolis area and has produced all of the CDs for Orangehaus Music Business Camp.  He was runner-up in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting competition and won "Song of the Year" at the 2007 GMA in the Rockies at Estes Park, Colo.





Tonya Butler


Tonya Butler, Esq., LL.M. is an entertainment attorney, music business professor, and former record label executive from Los Angeles.  Currently working with Hollywood's prestigious LA Film School, Tonya has business and legal experience with several music and film companies, such as Rhino Records, Pioneer Entertainment, and MGM Music.  Her work in film contracts includes blockbuster movies such as “Legally Blonde II”, “Barbershop”, “Walking Tall” and “Die Another Day”. Butler also has several art-direction and marketing credits for projects by CeCe Winans, Oleta Adams, Peter Frampton, Kirk Whalum, and Ray Charles.




Ray Sylvester


Ray Sylvester is an associate professor of marketing and personal branding in Anderson University's Falls School of Business. He was a senior lecturer and leader of two music business programs at Buckinghamshire New University. He co-wrote the first music business program in Europe in 1996. Ray has presented across both Europe and the US on the topic of personal branding. He also has personal branding chapter and case study contributions published through academic books, in both the US and the UK. He is a chartered Marketer and holds an MSc in Behavioral Science and an MA in Management. As a personal branding coach, Ray works with executives, professional athletes, and chart-topping artists/musicians. Ray is due to complete his doctoral research in music artist brand management in early 2016.


The Orangehaus staff will interview you immediately following check-in to make sure you are assigned to the right music business track based on your background and interest. Immediately after the interview, you may audition (optional) to be assigned to a band, and songwriters may also perform an original song (optional) for our producer who will select students to record their songs at Gaither Studios. 

If you plan to audition, be prepared to perform a couple of songs that best showcase your talent.  A drum set, keyboard, and amp will be on stage for you to use during the audition, and lockers will be provided for storing instruments during camp. You may audition on more than one instrument. Songwriters are encouraged to choose their best original song as one of their audition pieces, and if possible, bring a lead sheet of the song (melody, lyrics, chord chart). If you do not have a lead sheet, then just bring a printed copy of the lyrics.  

Those students who are assigned to a band will compete in OrangeFest at the end of the week in Byrum Hall. This free concert is open to the public, so be sure to invite your friends and family to attend this event.  Students who are not musicians, or prefer NOT to be in a band, meet each day with faculty to create a marketing plan for promoting and producing OrangeFest.

Friends and family are also encouraged to attend the Awards Ceremony on the last day of camp. Students each receive a certificate at the awards ceremony and a copy of the CD recorded at Gaither Studios.  Awards for each of the following areas will be announced:

Receive College Credit for Attending Orangehaus Music Business Camp

High school juniors and seniors attending Orangehaus Music Business Camp may apply to receive three hours college credit through Anderson University's Launch Program.

When taken for credit, students have additional online assignments and must pay summer school tuition rates in addition to the summer camp registration cost

This course satisfies requirements for MUBS 2010 Intro to Music Business listed in the Anderson University catalog.

What is Orangehaus Music Business Camp?

This is an extraordinary week long music business experience designed especially for high school students. The unique program was developed by Anderson University music business faculty and is sponsored by Orangehaus Records and Anderson University.


Who can attend the Orangehaus Music Business Camp?

Any high school student interested in learning more about the music business should register for this camp.

What if I can't afford to pay full price?

Scholarship funds are available to those who qualify. Decisions are made based upon academic good standing, passion for music business, and financial need. Contact Dr. Rebecca Chappell or Jill Goodwin to apply.

Do I need to have a background in music?

It is not necessary to be a musician or to even have a background in music business in order to benefit from this unique program. Classes are available for non-musicians who want to focus on the business side of the industry (management, marketing, promotion).

Should I bring my instrument?

Absolutely! Several opportunities will be available for students to perform, record, or just jam with the other students at the camp.

What is the daily schedule?

Music business classes are scheduled Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with special concerts and showcases scheduled every evening. Students will meet all together for the morning classes, which focus on the fundamentals of music business. Afternoon classes are selected according to each student’s special interests in music business, such as songwriting, producing, marketing, etc. There will be a Saturday morning “wrap-up” session before the camp ends at noon.

Who will be teaching the music business classes?

Instructors are music business faculty at Anderson University, assisted by award-winning producers, engineers, songwriters, entertainment attorneys, booking agents, managers, and live performance producers who currently work in the industry.

What is the cost of the camp?

The price per student was $695 all-inclusive (tuition, housing, meals). A non-refundable deposit is required upon registration.

What does the registration fee include?

Price includes tuition, housing, and meals.

What time should I plan to arrive for camp and when will it end?

Check-in begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, and the camp ends at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 14.  Friends and family are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 15.

Will I need additional money during the camp?

Students may want to bring some additional money for extra snacks, CDs,  or bookstore items.

What type of lodging is provided?

Housing is on the beautiful Anderson University campus in Morrison Hall. Each dorm room accommodates two students and we will attempt to honor any roommate requests. Students will be issued a swipe card for entrance to Morrison Hall and an individual room key. (Note: a $50 charge will be assessed for each room key not returned at the end of camp.)

Are linens provided?

You may bring your own linens to camp or Anderson University linen service will provide the following for $10.50:

  • 1 blanket
  • 2 single sheets
  • 1 pillow case
  • 2 bath towels
  • 1 hand towel
  • 1 wash cloth
  • 1 soap

What safety provisions have been made?

University police and security will be present on campus at all times. Dormitory doors are locked at all times. Students are provided with a swipe card for the dormitory building entrance and a key for individual rooms.

What is camp’s policy on discipline?

All camp participants will be provided with rules of conduct and are expected to adhere to these rules. Any student who violates these policies will be sent home immediately.

Is there a dress code?

All of our buildings are air-conditioned, so students will want to dress appropriately. Also, clothing should not display any questionable writing or design that would be offensive to the guidelines of Anderson University.

Where will the music business camp be held?

Orangehaus Music Business Camp will take place in the Krannert Fine Arts Building on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. (35 miles northeast of Indianapolis)
