Erin Coffman

Erin Coffman (BA ’04) has made a career for herself since graduating from Anderson University. When talking about her life now, she has nothing but good things to say about her experience at AU.

Coffman grew up in Anderson, Ind. and moved after graduation to Washington D.C where she worked for an education consulting company.

After a few years, she moved to Atlanta, Ga., where she received her Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State University. She interviewed for a job with Airbnb as a data scientist. She accepted the position and in 2011 moved to San Francisco, Calif., where she now resides.

As a data scientist, Coffman’s daily activities at Airbnb include supporting the public policy and communication teams with research. However, her research focuses on Airbnb's economic impact on housing, cities, hosts, hotel and other policy-related topics. Since October, she has been leading Data University, an internal data-training program. This program offers more than 25 different courses to all 3,000 employees.

She has a multitude of fond memories from her time as a student, including being a student athlete in golf, a part of senate, and a member of the social and service club, Camarada. She also participated in Tri-S trips and was highly active with different honor societies.

One of her favorite memories from her time at AU was the combination of Tri-S trips. “One of the strongest attributes or offerings AU gives you is Tri-S trips and that’s what sets it apart from other schools,” said Coffman. “I work with people that attended some of the top schools in the country and whenever I tell them my experiences with Tri-S, everybody is amazed that that’s something I had access to.”

She was immediately hooked on travel after her experiences. Coffman’s journey with Anderson University continued when she was asked to be on the Board of Trustees in spring of 2016. Coffman notes there are not many board members her age so she believed that it would offer another perspective and a way to give back to her alma mater. Coffman also states that the ability to make an impact outweighs the time commitment.

Coffman believes all her experiences at Anderson University have truly helped her with her career. She is truly grateful for her time here at AU and enjoys making an impact for the school by serving on the Board of Trustees.
